Summer sleep on air conditioning or fan? The wrong choice will hurt you? Teach you the healthiest way
Summer is here, sleep at night is to turn on the air conditioning or fan, has become a big problem for many people. Some people think that air conditioning cool but afraid of hurting the body, some say that the fan to save electricity but blowing dizziness. In the end, which one to choose in order to sleep well and not hurt your health?
The difference between an air conditioner and a fan is actually more than just the degree of coolness. Air conditioning can quickly bring down the temperature of the room, but also make the air less humid. Fans, just let the air move, skin feel cool, but the room temperature did not change much.
When the human body sleeps, the body temperature will naturally drop a little, about 0.5 ℃ is best, the deepest sleep. Air conditioners cool down too vigorously, may make the body temperature drop too much, the body thinks it is in a cold environment, asleep and easy to wake up. Fan cooling slow, high temperature, blowing blowing people still hot, sleep is not solid.
Many people turn on the air conditioning, like to set the temperature at 22 ℃ or 24 ℃, think the colder the more comfortable. Research says that when the temperature is below 23°C for too long, the body secretes something called norepinephrine, which increases by 10 to 17 percent. This can make the brain feel at risk, sleep less deeply and make it easier to wake up early in the morning.
Fans are no less problematic. After blowing in a fixed direction for a long time, your skin always feels windy, and your brain thinks the environment is unsafe, and you tend to wake up when you fall asleep. Also, the noise of the fan, especially the low-frequency kind, below 40Hz, will interfere with the brain to enter deep sleep, and you will not sleep well.
Another benefit of air conditioning is dehumidification. In summer, the air is humid, and the humidity often exceeds 80%, so people feel stuffy and can't sleep because they toss and turn before bed. Air conditioning can reduce the humidity to 50% to 60%, which is the most comfortable range for the body to dissipate heat. Fans don't care about humidity at all, blowing cool, but sweating a lot, may wake up a few times in the middle of the night. Some people worry that air conditioning will cause colds and muscle aches if blown for a long time. In fact, it's not the fault of the air conditioner, it's the wrong setting. Set the air conditioner to 26 ℃ or more, choose sleep mode, the temperature rises slowly, basically no problem. Sleeping at night, 24 ℃ to 27 ℃ is the most appropriate temperature, too low and too high are not good.
Fans also have the advantage of air circulation. When the air conditioning, windows and doors are closed, carbon dioxide is easy to become more, less oxygen, sleep may feel stuffy. Fan generally open the window, the air changes quickly, the room is not stuffy. But if the temperature outside is high enough to be above 30 degrees Celsius, the wind blowing out of the fan is still hot and can't help much.
The key to a healthy night's sleep is not just whether it's cold or not, but whether your brain can relax. Air conditioners and fans can affect the brain's “sense of security”. For example, a fan blowing too hard, or air conditioning noise, light flicker, will make the brain feel unstable environment, sleep is not deep.
