A total of 14 right-handed male subjects were recruited for the study, with age (21.6±1.8) years, height (173.1±6.4) cm, body mass (64.8±5.5) kg, and body mass index (21.6±1.2) kg/m2. A thorough physical examination was performed before the trial to exclude subjects with cardiovascular disease or hidden mental disorders. A training session was conducted before the trial to enable the subjects to better understand the content of the trial, especially the operation of the cognitive tasks. Subjects were not allowed to drink alcohol, consume caffeine, or take medication during the test. Strenuous exercise was not allowed the day before each test. All subjects participated voluntarily and were paid by the hour. Also all subjects carefully read and signed the informed consent form before the test. The study was ethically reviewed.

Applying a systems approach to optimize the pumping system by the most appropriate means, based on a thorough testing and analysis of the system, can result in energy savings of 30-50%.
